The Killer Coin
Book -Synopsis:
Embedded in the slender neck of the burned corpse, a gold coin beckons. Its surprising thumbprint peels back the veneer on a morass of intrigue that threatens to destroy military investigator Jack Vu's sense of order and his career. As his hunt for the murderer unravels, Vu ricochets from the Big Easy to the unlucky waters of the Pacific Northwest. Along the road, he discovers unlikely allies and unexpected enemies. Reinforcements appear in the form of cantakerous swamp rats, bush pilots and more than a few shots of bourbon. Love, betrayal, honor, and a final sense of justice play out as this case crashes on the rocks. Buckle your seat belts. This is one wild ride.
Excerpt #1:
A clouded hazel eye stared out accusingly from the twisted face. The stench of burnt and decaying tissue hung like death's cruel veil concealing the image of the iron still branding its deep imprint into the fleshy part of the woman's abdomen. Gates swallowed hard. Hill opened a window, allowing a fresh breeze to blow in. "I think I'm gonna puke." This was Hill's first homicide.
Excerpt #2:
He watched her slender hands unfold the brown paper bag. His body quivered, like the alligator that snipped off the bony appendage was slithering its jagged teeth inside his soul. "You okay, Jack?"
"Just continue please."
Betty drew out the fleshy, frozen hand. "I'm going to have to thaw it out." She told him. "It'd be quicker if I put it in the microwave." Betty placed the hand on a scale. "1.6 pounds." She said, and recorded it. "C'mon, lets go upstairs. There's a microwave in the break room."
